Is responsible for the skillful performance of a variety of clinical and nonclinical patient care functions for a specialized group of patients in accordance with established unit-specific Standards of Care and policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with all members of the health care team. Shares various tasks with other licensed and non-licensed staff members. Performs routine and assigned clerical duties to support the over all activities and goals.
Assembles equipment and supplies necessary for patient care and prepares them for use by patient and staff.
Cleans delivery rooms, instruments, stretchers, monitors and equipment post-delivery or patient use.
Assumes responsibility for setting up delivery rooms before and after delivery.
Prepares rooms prior to patient arrival.
Prepares testing charts and supplies and equipment and linen.
Responsible for weekly cleaning of equipment and damp dusting in Labor and Delivery and nursery.
Assumes responsibility for checking all culture media and wrapped sterile supplies for outdates and replaces them accordingly.
Independently seeks to keep the overall unit organized and neat in appearance.
Processes and maintains accurate records of departmental activities, correspondence and recurring reports using established file systems, computer-entry terminal, copying printer and other forms, etc.
Receives and directs phone calls and greets visitors and customers.
Takes messages, answers questions and refers visitors and patients to appropriate individuals.
Separates and distributes mail coming into and out of the department.
Monitors, orders and stocks routine department supplies, papers, and non-routine items upon appropriate authorization on an independent and regular basis.
