Assists surgeon during c-sections and other surgical procedures. Ensures surgical suite is adequately prepared for C-sections and other procedures. Ensures labor and delivery rooms are adequately stocked and prepared. Assists Obstetrical nurses as needed. Provides direct and indirect patient care. Provides for personal care, comfort and assists with a safe clean environment and maintains equipment and supplies. Prepares and compiles records.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
Ability to demonstrate unit specific competency. (See skills checklist)
Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient.
Assists with patient admissions, discharge and transfers.
Provides ADLS and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.
Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
Observes patient's mental and physical conditions, reports any changes to the nurse.
Answers patients' call lights, anticipates patients' needs and makes safety rounds of assigned patients.
Assists in the transport of patients
Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output.
Answers telephone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family
Knowledgeable of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety
Retrieves patient data from computer and printer and brings to the attention of appropriate staff members.
Communicates in a clear and concise manner to RNs, medical staff, patients and families.
Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Treat patient and families with respect and dignity.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated.
Prepares OR and Labor and Delivery Rooms in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, suture, supplies and equipment for each patient.
Assists in positioning, prepping and draping patient for c-sections and other surgical procedures
Cleans and prepares rooms in between patients; restocks supplies
Accurately completes counts, instruments, sponges, and sharps. Follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to circulating nurse and surgeon.
Carries out surgical asepsis at all times
Checks all equipment/instruments prior to use to ensure proper functioning
Is fully responsible for the care of instruments and equipment in the operating rooms.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
