Summary

Provides knowledge in the practice of lactation management.
Assesses patient�s needs, diagnoses lactation problems, plans and implements intervention, and evaluates outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conducts prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluates educational outcomes.
• Provides outpatient care, consultation and home visits for families experiencing breastfeeding difficulties.
• Serves as consultant for physicians and other healthcare providers concerning lactation as it relates to patient�s health problems.

Education

Required: Graduate from an academic program in human lactation and breastfeeding that includes both the didactic and clinical instruction.

Experience

Required: Experience working with Mother Baby couplets in low and high risk situations.

Certifications

Required: Must be certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). BLS and NRP.
